| Mollie Raley
is a singer-songwriter-guitarist and humorist, whose
last festival appearance was at the 1994 Fall Fling
with the group “Compatible Signs”. She
has served as a festival volunteer for years, and
currently on the DEFF Board, as Marketing Chair. Mollie
has been delighting audiences with her hilarious rewriting
of old favorites to reflect recent events and political
happenings, as well as fresh original tunes on a wide
variety of themes, and song stylings. Her cover tunes
likewise range from contemporary and classic folk,
rock, pop, spirituals, blues and jazz, to old favorites.
Mollie has also served as a regular musician for the
local “Sunday On Thursday” Service at
Christ Church, Dover, even writing original songs
to fit the service theme, and coaxing sing-alongs.
DEFF President John Kidd reviewed: “Perhaps
Mollie’s greatest performing asset is her singing
voice, strong, full-bodied, and accurately pitched,
centered on the alto range, but capable of hitting
notes from soprano to tenor”.
A native of Southern Maryland, Mollie has been singing
since early childhood, accompanying her parents and
six siblings, as well as songs on the radio. She grew
up loving folk music, along with contemporary Rock
and Roll, and standard ballads. Mollie’s early
musical training came from public school music programs,
where she sang in choral groups, school musicals,
and mastered vocal harmony parts. She also played
trumpet and French horn in school and community bands.
Mollie has been playing guitar since age 10, largely
self-taught on both 6- and 12-string guitars. In addition,
Mollie has sung in community and church choirs through
the years. She is most fortunate to share the vocal
and instrumental talents of four wonderful musicians,
known for this appearance as “The Righteous
Dames and Dudes”, as follows:
Carlos Holmes is a pianist and flutist
who has played in gospel, jazz, and folk music circles.
He currently is the pianist for Bethuel 7th Day Adventist
Church, and also performs jazz flute with the Christy
Taylor Quintet. He has performed at previous Fall
Flings with Melanie, Jim Patchett, and John and Vickie
LeCroy. Carlos has performed at many public service
functions, weddings, and accompanies himself while
singing tuneful ballads. He is especially appreciated
for his ability to improvise on flute and piano.
Deloy Moore is a singer-songwriter
and multi-instrumentalist who has played at virtually
every Fall Fling/Festival since its inception in 1992.
He has produced his own album, “Harmony”,
based on his experiences in a town along the coast
of California. Deloy has played with bands going back
to the “Lost Orphans” with DEFF’s
first president, Greg Schrader, the “Chord Monkeys”,
“Tangled Roots”, “Waterbillies”,
and has been invited by many musicians over the years
to play with their combos. He has also been invited
to perform at local churches, often with his daughter,
Larissa. Deloy has also taught guitar, bass, mandolin,
banjo and ukulele and plays dobro.
Carol Firetto has sung in church
choirs since high school. Before she moved to Delaware,
she was in two little theater productions in Plainfield,
NJ: "How to Succeed in Business Without Really
Trying" as Miss Krumholz, and sang Timid Frieda
in "George and Jacques" written by a friend
about Jacques Brel and George Gershwin. Her versatile
vocal skills and theatrical experience lend a delightful
blend to the Righteous Dames harmonious sound.
Pat Malcolm has sung with church
choirs most of her life, and was trained in Voice
at Delaware State University. A strong soprano, with
a wide vocal and repertoire range, Pat has performed
classical vocal concerts in New York City, locally
in Dover, as a member of the Christ Episcopal Church
Choir, and the Delaware Choral Society, as well as
singing at jazz clubs in Baltimore. Her powerful vocal
skills contribute immensely to the total Righteous
Dames song experience.
